This is one of my favorite dishes to make. It's fast and a big hit with everyone.
What you will need:
4 cups of pasta shells.
1 jar of spaghetti sauce (I normally buy Newmans)
1 can of mushrooms.
1/2 lb of hamburger meat (turkey may be substituted)
1/2 lb of italian sausage
10 ounces of mozzeralla cheese.
1/2 of a small onion
Prep:
Cut up your sausage in good bite sizes.
Chop up onions small and place to the side.
Shred cheese and sit aside. (you may want to buy the shredded kind.
First:
Boil 2 1/2 cups of water. As your water is boiling,
in a large skillet add sausage with a little olive oil. I usually will add a little minced garlic, totally optional. Cook for 5 minutes and add hamburger meat, onions, a dash of salt and 2 dashes pepper.
Cook for 10 minutes more on medium heat. Add sauce and mushrooms. Turn on low and let simmer for at least 30 minutes.
Second:
Once water is boiling add pasta shells. Let Cook intil tender.
Strain your pasta in cool water. This helps the pasta not to stick.
Third:
Put pasta back in cookware and mix the pasta with the sauce.
After mixed placed back on stove and add cheese, this helps in the melting process.
Fourth: Enjoy! This is a dish at it's best when served right from the stove.
I normally serve this with homemade garlic bread and a salad.
*There are many variations of this. Last Christmas while at my mother-in-laws, she served something similiar but without cheese and more hamburger with some chili pepper.
I tend to experiment with it, adding green peppers, pepperoni, and different kinds of pasta.
