This is delicious and i love making them for my friends and family.
It is an Arabic Scone from Yemen known as a healthy biscuit because Dates are a cure for everything!
4 cups of whole meal flour (if possible a self raising flour whole meal is good i am still looking for one)
If you find it easier use self raising.
2 eggs.
4 table spoons of milk powder.
4 table spoons of custard powder.
1 cup and a half of evaporated milk.
1 cup of melted organic butter.
1 and half cups of caster sugar.
1-2 table spoons or 2 teaspoons of baking powder.
Seedless dates.
vanilla essence.
Preheat oven to gas mark 4
Mix flour, baking powder, and custard powder and bring together with the 2 eggs.
Melt butter and sugar add vanilla essence and then pour over mixture.
Bring together with hands to form a stiff dough.
Knead the dough like making bread.
Place onto floured board or worktop and roll out.
Cut out two thick rounds with cutter.
Place seedless date on one and moisten one piece with water and seal it, you can add jam too or honey.
Keep up the process until all dough is used.
Place onto a greased baking tray and cook for 20 minutes.
The biscuites should be hard and golden brown in colour.
The date with taste very sweet when cooked.
Perfect partner... Milky coffee (I have a recipe for milky coffee on my site that goes really nicely with this scone.
