Growing Alfalfa Sprouts in Kitchen

First, be certain to have a few half-gallon or gallon sized clear plastic containers about that are clean to grow the sprouts in. Being certain to have a clean space by the window with a towel that will serve no other purpose than to keep your efforts from merely getting water about a bit. Keep your sprouts away from open flames and heavy traffic areas in your apartment or home. Clear juice containers work better than soft drink bottles as the sprouts are easier to get out.

Boil a gallon of water, and let it cool to room temperature, to ensure clean and fresh water for your plants, or purified water to use to wash your seeds in prior to adding the distilled water.

Then, purchase a bag of alfalfa seed from a local store. You might want to purchase a few gallons of distilled water, if the water quality in your area is not good. That's what sprouts mainly are, liquid water, so growing a tasty sprout relies on having good water. A pint-sized jar of water should be enough for this task. If you prefer to use spring water, by all means, do so. Alfalfa sprouts are those tasty little vegetables served at expensive sandwich shops, on breads such as crepes, naan, pita, or other flat-breads.

If all the shop stocks is mixed sprout seeds, that's fine, be thankful for having that, or mung bean seeds, which will also grow. The process is about the same - whatever works. The mung bean sprouts take a few more days to grow, and become the things that look like noodles in a stir fry. You might need to mail order the alfalfa seeds, as a lot of areas no longer carry them.

Place 1/4 cup of alfalfa seed into each clean container, preferably plastic. Rinse the seeds off with the purified water (or the distilled water), and leave to soak over night in one cup of the distilled water (or the purified water).

The purified, or cooled down boiled water can be used to make iced tea or lemonade while you are waiting for your sprouts, and you can also store it in clean half-gallon or gallon jugs that are marked "purified water".

The next day, you will need to rinse out your sprouts carefully with the purified water a few times, being careful when you pour most of the water into the sink slowly to avoid spilling all the seeds into the sink, and will need to add another cup of the distilled water to the jug. Every day, you should do this until your alfalfa sprouts begin hatching. Grow them to taste.
