Red White and Blue gelatin

1 package blue gelatin dessert - four servings
2 envelopes unflavored gelatin
1 package red gelatin dessert - four servings
1 cup boiled water
1 cup cold water or crushed ice
1 cup boiled water
1 cup milk (ordinary, low-fat, coconut, almond, etc...)
1 cup boiled water
1 cup cold water or crushed ice
Optional flag cake decorations; red, white, and blue jellybeans

Total time to prepare
4 hours in 9 " x 12 " pan
3 hours in dessert cups or small bowls

The key to this is to allow each layer of the gelatin dessert mix to cool before adding the next layer of dessert mix

Prepare the blue gelatin dessert according to package instructions, in a Pyrex TM cup or pouring glass cup.
This means, empty the little packet into the mixing cup, then, stir in the boiled water for a minute, then add the cold water.
Then, pour into dessert cups, and allow to cool in the refrigerator. Add a few jellybeans if you wish into the cooling mix.

Be certain to clean out the mixing cup before preparing the next layer of dessert mix, to remove the blue color.

1 hour later, prepare the next layer with unflavored gelatin, stirring in the boiled water, which should still be extremely hot, until the dessert mix dissolves. (If you forget, the phone rang, the dog barked, or the potatoes boiled over, just microwave the mix for a minute, and stir the hot mix until the goo at the bottom is dissolved). Add the cold cup of milk, to the mix. Take out the cups of dessert, place on counter, pour in the white mix, and place the cups in the fridge.

When this layer is cool, one hour later, feel free to add something to the top that will be visible through the red gelatin dessert, such as one marzipan candy, an edible flower or cake decoration, or those colorful chocolate candies in red, white and blue candy coating. Some of us have all sorts of tiny treats squirreled away in the pantry, such as cinnamon hearts, blue gummy dolphins, etc...

You might want to place one cup of water in the freezer for the red gelatin if you add fancy treats to the top of the white layer, so that they look their best under the red gelatin, and do not melt.

1 hour later, prepare the red gelatin dessert mix, using a clean Pyrex TM class quart mixing cup or other glass cup. Pour the packet or red gelatin dessert mix into the cup, add the boiled water, stir for a minute or until the gelatin powder completely dissolves and the whole mix is translucent, or almost transparent. Then, add the chilled water, whisk this mix with a fork.

Get those dessert cups with the blue and white gelatin layers out of the fridge, and onto a tray, cookie sheet, or large plate that will fit in the fridge. Add the gelatin and the candy, or the candy and the gelatin for a candy that lies flat - carefully.

It's time to place the dessert back into the refrigerator with great care. Sure, it's no Pavlova dessert, just a pudding, however, nonetheless, please be careful with it. It's eye candy as much as dessert, and you've given it eye appeal!

Wait another hour.

Serves 10 - 12
